These substances were identified for action under the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP). The assessment focused on 11 substances referred to collectively under the CMP as the Alkanolamines and Fatty Alkanolamides Group.

Follow-up activities
Although DEA, LDE, CDE and TEA are not considered to be harmful to human health or to the environment at current levels of exposure, these substances are associated with effects of concern, namely their potential carcinogenicity. Therefore, there may be a concern if exposures were to increase. For this reason, the proposed follow-up activity is to apply the SNAc provisions of CEPA to DEA, LDE, CDE and TEA. In addition, these substances are being proposed for addition to the Watch List.
Watch List
The draft assessment for Alkanolamines and Fatty Alkanolamides Group was published on July 18, 2020, before the creation of the Watch List under CEPA. Therefore, DEA, LDE, CDE and TEA are proposed for addition to the Watch List based on the final assessment. Questions regarding this proposed addition can be submitted to:

Background
The eight alkanolamine substances (CAS RNs 141-43-5, 100-37-8, 111-42-2, 61791-31-9, 61791-44-4, 102-71-6, 122-20-3 and 85204-21-3) in this assessment were originally referred to as the Alkanolamines Group under the CMP, while the three fatty alkanolamides (CAS RNs 120-40-1, 142-78-9, 68603-42-9) were transferred to this group from the Fatty Amides Group as they potentially contain residual alkanolamines.
