Share your views: Proposed new requirements for consumer chemical products under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act

Many substances found in consumer chemical products, like household cleaning products, have been linked to human health hazards of concern such as carcinogens, mutagens and reproductive toxicants. Health Canada is consulting on a proposal to help address the health and safety risk posed by these hazards, under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.
Who was the focus of this consultation
We engaged with:
- members of the public
- health professionals
- consumer and non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
- stakeholders in the chemical industry
- Indigenous groups
- researchers and academics
- other interested parties
Key topics for discussion
We sought feedback on our suggestions to:
- establish hazard classification criteria and elements on labels that will give people in Canada valuable safety information on human health hazards of concern
- including carcinogens, mutagens, reproductive toxicants and other hazards
- introduce protections that are critical for people's safety, where deemed necessary
- including prohibitions, restrictions and child-resistant containers
- use peel-back labels and online tools to disclose information on human health hazards of concern
The input that was gathered through this process will be used to help inform next steps, which may include future consultations.
