Incorporated by reference the labelling requirements for pressurized containers containing biocides

A designated container is a disposable metal container that’s designed to release pressurized contents by use of a manually operated valve that forms an integral part of the container.

The Biocides Regulations set out specific labelling requirements for biocides packaged in a designated container, including:

• signal words
• hazard symbols
• additional statements
• primary hazard statements

The Biocides Regulations also incorporate by reference the labelling requirements for pressurized containers containing biocides. That document includes requirements about:

• the size of hazard symbols
• text formatting (size, style and type)
• placement of symbols and text on the label

The requirements set out in the incorporated document were adapted from sections 15 to 18 and 19(1)(b) of the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations (as they read on September 30, 2001). The requirements are incorporated by reference into the Biocides Regulations on a "static" basis, which means they may only be changed by a regulatory amendment.

The requirements set out in the incorporated document come into effect when the Biocides Regulations come into effect. This is 1 year after they are registered by the Clerk of the Privy Council.
