Archived Consultation on Proposals to Amend the Tobacco Reporting Regulations

This consultation is seeking comments on proposed changes to the Tobacco Reporting Regulations resulting from new authorities in Bill S-5.
Why
The Government of Canada introduced Bill S-5 to the Senate on November 22, 2016. This Bill would amend the Tobacco Act, Non-smokers' Health Act and other pertinent acts.
Based on the Bill, we are suggesting changes so that:
- we can get more and better information from tobacco makers and importers;
- we can disclose information to the public;
- we can update the tobacco testing methods from time to time.
These improvements will help us to make better decisions and policies aimed at continuing to reduce tobacco use in Canada.

We are seeking comments from:
- health partners
- the general public
- interested members of the industry
What
The purpose of this consultation is to get comments on:
- improving the information we collect from tobacco makers and importers
- public disclosure of information by the Minister
When and where
You have 60 days to send us your comments. The consultation period closes January 31, 2018.
