Reporting on Green Procurement

This supplementary information table supports reporting on green procurement activities in accordance with the Policy on Green Procurement.

Context

The Canadian Grain Commission became subject to the Federal Sustainable Development Act in December 2020, adheres to the principles of the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) by complying with the Policy on Green Procurement, and has developed a 2020 to 2023 Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS).

The Policy on Green Procurement supports the Government of Canada’s effort to promote environmental stewardship. In keeping with the objectives of the policy, the Canadian Grain Commission supports sustainable development by integrating environmental performance considerations into the procurement decision making process through the actions described in the 2019 to 2022 FSDS “Greening Government” goal.

In 2021-22, the Canadian Grain Commission continued to incorporate the Greening Government goal into its business strategy and established a revised DSDS for 2022-23. The strategy can be found on the Canadian Grain Commission’s website.

Report on integrating sustainable development

Canadian Grain Commission will continue to ensure that its decision-making process includes consideration of FSDS goals and targets through its strategic environmental assessment (SEA) process. A SEA for a policy, plan or program proposal includes an analysis of the impacts of the given proposal on the environment, including on relevant FSDS goals and targets.

Public statements on the results of Canadian Grain Commission’s assessments are made public when an initiative that has undergone a detailed SEA is announced on its webpage grainscanada.gc.ca. The purpose of the public statement is to demonstrate that the environmental effects, including the impacts on achieving the FSDS goals and targets, of the approved policy, plan or program have been considered during proposal development and decision-making.

During the 2021–22 reporting cycle, the Canadian Grain Commission no proposals that required a strategic environmental assessment (SEA) and no public statements were produced.
