GC Workplace Accessibility Passport: Create a Passport
The GC Workplace Accessibility Passport (the Passport) helps federal employees with disabilities remove barriers and succeed at work. Follow these steps to get started.

Who can use it
To use the Passport, you must be one of the following:
- Government of Canada employee with a disability
- Government of Canada job candidate with a disability
You do not need to self-declare your disability to your employer.
How it works
- Use the Passport to propose solutions to workplace barriers
- Using the Passport is voluntary
- You do not need to provide documentation, like a medical note, to complete your Passport
- Your personal Passport information is private and accessible only to you – unless you choose to share it
- You can share your Passport with your manager, then collaborate with them to determine effective solutions
- The Passport helps you avoid renegotiating supports each time you change jobs, organizations or managers
- You can update, delete or add items to your Passport at any time
Access the Passport
The Passport is available in two formats:
Option 1: Digital Passport (myAW)
Use this option if your organization has onboarded myAccessibleWorkplace (myAW).
- Open the TBS Applications Portal (TAP)
- Select “myAccessibleWorkplace”
- Follow the on-screen instructions
Access will be denied if your organization has not onboarded the application.
Option 2: Word Passport
Use this option if your organization has not onboarded myAW, if you prefer to work offline, or if you find this version more accessible.
- Download the Word Passport (Microsoft Word - 77.9 KB)
Note: Save your Passport as a Protected B document.
Create a Passport item
You can add multiple items to your Passport if you face different barriers at work. Each item includes:
- one situation – where or when the barrier happens
- one barrier – that makes it hard for you to fully participate
- one or more proposed solutions – that could help remove or reduce the barrier
Create each Passport item using these steps.
Step 1: Identify a situation
Workplace situations where you may encounter barriers include:
- doing your everyday tasks
- attending learning events
- working in various locations (fieldwork, co-working locations, designated worksites, travel)
Step 2: Identify a barrier
A barrier is anything that limits your full and equal participation in the workplace. For example:
- auditory and visual distractions
- lifting or carrying objects
- inadequate workstation equipment
Step 3: Propose a solution
Adding a solution to your Passport means you’re proposing it for consideration. You and your manager can then determine which solutions are appropriate based on organizational and operational requirements.
Solutions can be tools, services, adjustments or support measures that help remove the barrier. For example:
- Barrier 1: auditory and visual distractions
- Solution 1: scheduled focus time
- Barrier 2: lifting or carrying objects
- Solution 2: lifting devices and techniques
- Barrier 3: inadequate workstation equipment
- Solution 3: sit-stand desk
Step 4: Review and save
Review the new item to confirm the information is accurate, then save your Passport.
- Keeping a backup copy of your Passport in Word helps you avoid renegotiating supports each time you change jobs, organizations or managers.
- When downloading your Passport, save it as a Protected B document.
Share your Passport
When you’re ready, share your Passport with your manager to identify which solutions work best. After discussing it with you, your manager can record an agreement to help implement the solution. They may do so by:
- Word Passport: inserting their name and date in your Passport document
- Digital Passport: selecting “Agreement”
After you reach an agreement
Check in regularly with your manager to ensure solutions remain effective.
Changing organizations
You may move to an organization that has not yet onboarded the digital Passport. In this case, keep a Word version to share your Passport with your next manager.
Keep your Passport updated
Update your Passport at least annually or when:
- your needs change
- you start or apply for a new job or position
- you plan to take training and may need supports
Your privacy
Your Passport information is private. All data in the Passport reporting feature is anonymized.
