Minister Ng speaks with Amadou Hott, Senegal’s Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation

Canada and Senegal share a longstanding relationship including through the Francophonie, providing mutual economic growth, and paving the way for innovative and inclusive trade and investment opportunities for both countries.

Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, spoke with Amadou Hott, Senegal’s Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation.

Minister Ng discussed the virtual trade mission that she launched this week to create opportunities for women-owned and led businesses in the fields of renewable energy and information and communications technology.

Minister Ng highlighted the success of the Canada-Africa Clean Growth symposium co-hosted with the Government of Senegal in March 2021, and reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting equitable and sustainable growth in Senegal by strengthening trade and investment relations. The Minister also marked the 60th anniversary of Canada-Senegal diplomatic relations.

The Minister voiced Canada’s support for the work being undertaken by the Canadian Commercial Corporation and the Government of Senegal to advance sustainable infrastructure projects in the country.

The Minister also congratulated Senegal on its role as the Chair of the African Union for 2022. She reiterated that Canada remains a steadfast partner with Senegal and the African Union as they continue to work toward implementing the historic African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
