International Business Development Strategy for clean technology

The International Business Development Strategy (IBDS) for clean technology was designed to encourage and support Canadian firms in their efforts to capitalize on growing opportunities in the global market for clean technology.

The IBDS was announced in Budget 2017 and will invest $15 million over four years for Global Affairs Canada to develop and implement enhanced support for the clean technology sector.

The strategy will be delivered through Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service and will position 15 new trade commissioners in key global hubs to deliver the following activities:

• Help firms access international business opportunities generated by climate finance by establishing a new Climate Finance Business Development team. This team will include four new regionally focused, climate finance trade commissioners located in Washington, D.C.; Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire; London, United Kingdom; and Manila, Philippines.
• Position a trade commissioner in the Government of Canada Clean Growth Hub to offer improved and streamlined services to clean technology firms.
• Position dedicated trade commissioners in key global hubs in South America (Bogotá, Colombia); Europe (Berlin, Germany); Africa (Nairobi, Kenya); and Asia (Singapore) to enhance clean technology resources abroad and ensure the success of a growing number of clean technology exporters.
• Launch Cleantech Global, a domestic outreach campaign to increase clean technology firms’ understanding of and access to a growing number of Government of Canada programs and services that are available to support their international business development needs.
