Water governance and legislation
Canada is a federation. As in many areas of Canadian life, this means that different levels of government have different jurisdictional roles related to water management, while there are also many areas of shared commitment. This section covers these roles and responsibilities, as well as the governance approaches that Canada's federal, provincial and territorial governments have developed to protect and conserve our freshwater resources. These approaches can be broadly categorized under the following headings:
