Take Time in Nature Every Day – Protect Nature Challenge

Studies show that time in nature makes us happier and healthier. It improves our mood and creates positive feelings.

Here are five ways to be healthy and connect with nature:

  1. Skip the car – Bike, walk or bus whenever you can. It is cheaper and healthier. One of the best ways to help nature is reducing vehicle emissions and its impacts on climate change.
  2. Exercise outside – There are countless ways to exercise and get fresh air while connecting with nature. You can walk, hike, roll, bike, swim, stretch, snowshoe, shovel, skate, cross-country ski and more.
  3. Volunteer – Participate in a local nature clean-up, tree planting or research project. Meet people in your community, get fresh air and feel good about helping local nature.
  4. Naturalize gardens – Plant native plant species. Create naturalized gardens in your yard, window box or community. The entire neighbourhood will enjoy the beautiful flowers and so will wildlife like butterflies, bees and birds that come to visit.
  5. Commune with nature – Enjoy time spent in a garden, read under a tree, walk through the forest, kayak on a lake, camp in a protected area and more.
