Consultation process on Migratory Game Bird Hunting Regulations
We have developed a national consultation process to provide an opportunity for everybody to participate in developing the migratory bird hunting regulations. As part of this process, we produce 3 Migratory Birds Regulatory Reports.
The first report
Population Status of Migratory Game Birds in Canada, contains population and other biological information on migratory game birds. It examines population trends for these bird species to determine sustainable harvest levels.
The second report
Proposals to Amend the Canadian Migratory Birds Regulations, outlines the proposed changes to the hunting regulations and proposed amendments to the Migratory Birds Regulations.
The third report
Migratory Game Bird Hunting Regulations in Canada, is the final step in the consultation process. The main functions of this report are to:
- describe which of the proposed amendments have been made into law for the next 2 hunting seasons
- provide the rationale for those decisions
Additional information
Migratory game bird hunters are informed of the migratory game bird hunting regulations when they purchase their hunting permits. They also receive information on the season dates, bag and possession limits.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is responsible for the management of sustainable hunting of migratory game birds in Canada. The migratory bird hunting regulations are developed under the Migratory Birds Regulations, which implement the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994, and in accordance with the Objectives and Guidelines for the Establishment of National Regulations for Migratory Game Bird Hunting.
