Permits issued under the Migratory Birds Regulations

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is the federal department that is responsible for managing migratory birds in Canada and implements policies and regulations to protect these birds and the natural habitats on which they depend.

Permit applications

Under certain conditions, authorization to undertake prohibited activities (including scaring, capturing or killing migratory birds or taking or destroying their nests or eggs) may be authorized through a permit issued by the Minister of ECCC. Permitting procedures for such activities are guided by the Migratory Birds Regulations and the Migratory Birds Convention Act.

Several permits are issued under the Migratory Birds Regulations including:

• Airport Permits;
• Aviculture Permits;
• Damage or Danger Permits;
• Eiderdown Permits;
• Scientific Permits;
• Taxidermy Permits.

To apply for any of these permits please contact the appropriate Canadian Wildlife Service regional office to obtain the necessary application forms as well as instructions on how to complete and submit your application.
