Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp

Each year, Wildlife Habitat Canada holds a national art competition. The winning entry is used as the design for the Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp. This stamp is also known unofficially as the Canadian Duck Stamp.

The purpose of the stamp is threefold:

  • it is required to be affixed to the physical Migratory Game Bird Hunting (MGBH) Permit for it to be valid. For electronic permits purchased online, an image of the stamp is affixed to the PDF version of the permit
  • it raises funds for projects to help conserve wildlife and its habitats, particularly migratory birds
  • it brings attention to the importance of wildlife and their habitats

Funds raised by the Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp are collected through the sale of the:

  • stamps when purchasing MGBH Permits
  • stamp collecting products
  • fine art products

These funds are transferred to the Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp Initiative program, which is managed by Wildlife Habitat Canada. The funds specifically support projects that include waterfowl, migratory birds, and their habitats. Over the years, more than $65 million has been raised, funding over 1,620 projects across Canada. These projects include habitat conservation, restoration, stewardship initiatives, and educational programs.

Wildlife Habitat Canada is a national non-profit, charitable conservation organization that was established in 1984. Its objectives are to provide funding for wildlife habitat conservation in Canada, to conserve, restore and enhance wildlife habitat, and to foster coordination and leadership in the conservation community.
