Subscribe to be kept informed on the risk management of the class of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances

The Government of Canada published a Risk Management Approach for per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), excluding fluoropolymers, on March 8, 2025, in which the Government is proposing new risk management actions for the class of PFAS, excluding fluoropolymers, through a phased prohibition under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999

This service provides the latest news on risk management activities being taken by the Government of Canada on PFAS under the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP). When you sign up, you will only receive information on the risk management of PFAS under the CMP.

Privacy Act Notice Statement

The personal information is collected under the authority of section 5 of the Department of the Environment Act and the Financial Administration Act.

The information is collected and used for the purpose of disseminating information on the risk management of PFAS under the CMP to subscribers. The personal information, name and contact information, will be used to provide email updates. Your email address will not be used or disclosed without your consent.

The personal information created, held or collected by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is protected under the Privacy Act. Information in this registration form will be used, disclosed and retained in accordance with the conditions listed in the Personal Information Bank Public Communications PSU 914.

Any questions or comments regarding this privacy notice may be directed to ECCC’s Access to Information and Privacy Division at ECATIP-ECAIPRP@ec.gc.ca. If you are not satisfied that your privacy has been adequately respected, you have the right to file a complaint. Phase 1

To receive notifications regarding activities on the prohibition of the use of PFAS, excluding fluoropolymers, not currently regulated in firefighting foams, such as aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF). For more information, please visit the webpage on PFAS and AFFF used in firefighting.

Phase 2

To receive notifications regarding activities on the prohibition of the uses of PFAS, excluding fluoropolymers, not needed for the protection of health, safety or the environment, with a particular focus on consumer applications. Examples of uses that may be regulated in Phase 2 include:

  • cosmetics
  • natural health products and non-prescription drugs
  • food packaging materials, food additives, non-industrial food contact products such as paper plates, bowls and cups
  • paint and coating, adhesive and sealant and other building materials available to consumers
  • consumer mixtures such as cleaning products, waxes and polishes
  • textile uses (including in personal protective equipment such as firefighting turnout gear)
  • ski waxes

Phase 3

To receive notifications regarding activities on the prohibition of the uses of PFAS, excluding fluoropolymers, requiring further evaluation of the role of PFAS for which currently there may not be feasible alternatives. Example of uses that may be regulated in Phase 3 include:

  • fluorinated gas applications (such as HFOs and HCFOs)
  • prescription drugs (human and veterinary)
  • medical devices
  • industrial food contact materials
  • industrial sectors such as mining and petroleum
  • transport and military applications
