Management of toxic substances: wood products sector

The wood products sector utilizes wood logs to produce a wide variety of products such as lumber, panel board, structural wood products, shingles, wood pellets and more.  These products can be transformed into secondary products like doors and windows, prefabricated wooden building materials and finishing materials such as wood flooring or siding.
Wood products are mainly used as building materials in residential and industrial construction.   The use of new wood building materials allows for the creation of structures with five or more stories of wood-frame construction.
Typically, the wood products industry emits air emissions from combustion process and has either none or very little effluent.

 Risk Management Instruments

The wood products industry is subject to the following risk management instruments that have been developed and implemented by Environment Canada.
