Calving of Markham Ice Shelf

The Markham Ice Shelf is located on the northeast coast of Ellesmere Island in Nunavut, Canada, approximately 800 km from the North Pole.

Sometime between August 4, 2008 and August 12, 2008, Markham Ice Shelf completely collapsed. Several large fragments of the shelf have moved out into the open water lead at the edge of the Ellesmere Island coastline.
