Permit application forms for species subject to import restrictions
Use these forms to request an import permit for species which are harmful to Canadian ecosystems and listed in Schedule II of the Wild Animal and Plant Trade Regulations (WAPTR).
Permits are required for all specimens of listed species (dead or alive), such as:
- eggs
- sperm
- tissue culture
- embryos
- any other parts or derivatives
Due to the nature of the risk with the import of specimens of Caudata (such as salamanders, newts and mudpuppies), two categories have been identified: low risk or high risk. Evaluate whether your specimen is under the low or high risk category and submit the correct application form. To get full details, please refer to the permitting policy.
Low risk category (for Caudata specimens)
The specimen falls under the low risk category if it meets one of these criteria:
- in preservation agents (see acceptable agents in permitting policy)
- extracted DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid)
- found in the list of low risk species and did not originate or transit in the Eurasia region

High risk category (for Caudata specimens)
If the specimen did not meet the criteria for low risk specimens, it is considered high risk.

If the species is listed in WAPTR Schedule II and is not from the Caudata order, then the following application form must be used.
