Reporting greenhouse gas emissions

Information and guidance on reporting to the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP).

Important Notice

The Single Window system is now open for 2025 reporting. You can submit your report for 2025 if your facility meets the criteria described in the notice. The deadline for submitting a 2025 GHG report is June 1, 2026.

An amendment to the Notice with respect to reporting of greenhouse gases for 2024 and 2025 was published in the Canada Gazette on December 6, 2025. It extends the reporting requirements to include 2026.

The Notice with respect to reporting of greenhouse gases (GHGs) for 2024 and 2025 was published on December 9, 2023 in the Canada Gazette and is applicable to reporting of 2024, 2025 and now 2026 data. The notice describes who must report and what information must be reported.

The deadlines for submitting 2025 and 2026 GHG reports are June 1, 2026, and June 1, 2027, respectively.

Facilities that reported their emissions in the previous year must inform us if they do not meet the current year’s reporting criteria by submitting a Does Not Meet Criteria (DNMC) report through the Single Window system.

Greenhouse gas reporting notices in the Canada Gazette

Under the GHGRP, a notice is published periodically in Part I of the Canada Gazette. The notice describes who must report and what information must be reported.

Notices for previous years' reporting requirements covering 2004 to 2016 are available at Government of Canada Publications or can be requested from the GHGRP.

Key changes that were made to federal reporting requirements in previous years included:

indication of intent to publish emissions by source category, updates to the global warming potential (GWP) values that facilities are required to use to assess whether they meet the specified reporting threshold and in reporting their emissions (issued in the 2022-2023 Notice)
additional expanded reporting requirements following prescribed methodologies introduced for nine additional industry sectors (issued in the 2018 Notice)
a reduction of the reporting threshold (from 50 kt to 10 kt of CO₂ eq.), newly expanded requirements for four specific industry sectors to report additional information following prescribed methodologies, and new requirements for reporting of CO₂ capture, transport, injection or storage (issued in the 2017 Notice)
