1,1,1-Trichloroethane (Methyl chloroform)

Methyl chloroform is a chemical compound consisting of carbon, hydrogen, and chlorine. It was widely used as a solvent in cleaners, degreasers and adhesives, and in the electronics and equipment manufacturing industries.

As methyl chloroform was found to deplete the stratospheric ozone layer it became subject to a global phase-out under an international agreement: the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

In Canada, methyl chloroform is subject to the Ozone Depleting Substances and Halocarbon Alternatives Regulations, which prohibit the production, import and export of methyl chloroform, except for very limited and specific applications.
