Fleet average NOx standards and reporting requirements for light-duty vehicles: chapter 1

Chapter 1: Introduction

This document provides guidance to companies subject to the fleet average NOx emission standards and the related end-of-model-year reporting requirements pursuant to the On-Road Vehicle and Engine Emission Regulations1 under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999(CEPA1999)2. These standards and reporting requirements apply to light-duty vehicles, light-duty trucks and medium-duty passenger vehicles.

This guidance is provided in the form of questions and answers regarding the main elements of the standards and reporting requirements related to the NOx fleet averaging provisions of the Regulations. The questions generally follow the order of the relevant sections in the Regulations and the answers reference the relevant sections or subsections of the Regulations.

1 Information on the Regulations is available at On-Road Vehicle and Engine Emission Regulations(SOR/2003-2).

2CEPA1999 is available at Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999).
