Recycling (R) Operations:

R1

Use as a fuel in an energy recovery system, where the heating value of the material is at least a net value of 12,780 kJ/kg (5500BTU/lb).

Recovery or regeneration of substances that have been used as solvents

Recovery of organic substances that have not been used as solvents

Recovery of metals and metal compounds

Footnotes:

R1-R11, R14 and R17 operations are considered to constitute final recycling operations.

Whereas,

• 12-R13 and R16 are considered intermediary operations which will eventually lead to recycling; and
• 16 refers to the interim storage operations undertaken at transfer stations.
