Passenger Automobile and Light Truck Greenhouse Gas Emission Regulations - Draft
Environment Canada has prepared a consultation draft of the planned Passenger Automobile and Light Truck Greenhouse Gas Emission Regulations, to seek comments from interested parties in advance of the publication of proposed regulations in the Canada Gazette, Part I. The draft regulations, developed under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA), would establish progressively more stringent regulated standards to limit greenhouse gas emissions from new passenger automobiles and light trucks in Canada beginning with the 2011 model year. The draft regulations are designed to align with U.S. national standards for improving fuel economy and reducing greenhouse gases for vehicles of the 2011 to 2016 model years.
Comments received by January 15, 2010, will be taken into account in developing the proposed regulations for publication in the Canada Gazette, Part I. The publication of proposed regulations in the Canada Gazette, Part I will initiate a 60-day formal public comment period, which will provide interested parties a further opportunity to provide input on this regulatory initiative.
A notice of the Government's intent to develop these regulations under CEPA was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I on April 4, 2009.
