Re: Leaded Fuel in Competition Vehicles

Dear Sirs,

I am writing to file an objection to the proposed regulation change to ban leaded fuel in 2009 for vehicles in competition (race cars, etc.).

This regulation makes no sense. It will severely harm the automotive racing industry (and hobbies) in Canada, while doing nothing to improve the environment.

From a personal perspective I know my sport of drag racing is a wonderful social tool to pull would-be street racers onto a track and therefore reduce street racing catastrophes. And I cannot imagine losing the ability to participate in my family's life-long hobby which we have invested countless hours and money.

The amount of lead used by racecars is negligible, especially in my sport of drag racing where most cars race for about 10 seconds! The real issue is with aircraft, but I can also see the justification of allowing a permanent exemption for aircraft.

This regulation will harm both professional racers and hobbyists who participate in motorsports across Canada.

I ask you to withdraw this proposal and grant a permanent exemption for competition vehicles with environmental measuring and monitoring to prove our levels remain negligible.
