Bill S-5, Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act received Royal Assent on June 13, 2023. The Government of Canada is working on the implementation of the modernized CEPA, which includes recognizing that every individual in Canada has a right to a healthy environment and strengthening Canada’s chemicals management regime.

Please note that some of the documents in this registry may contain information that relates to the previous version of CEPA. Relevant documents will be updated in the coming months to reflect CEPA as amended by the Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act.

The Act governs a variety of environmental matters such as air and water pollution, waste management and toxic substances. Read more about Canada’s action on pollution and waste management.
