Provincial and territorial halocarbon acts and regulations

Provincial and territorial legislation on ozone-depleting substances (ODS) and halocarbon alternatives complement federal regulations. The regulatory requirements to minimize ODS emissions include:

  • proper labeling and handling of equipment containing ODSs,
  • training for equipment service providers
  • procedures for installing, removing, servicing, repairing or decommissioning products containing an ODS and their halocarbon alternatives.

The legislation also contain phase-out provisions and prohibitions on certain substances and uses, and prohibit the recharging of leaking equipment. Many of the provincial regulations reference the Environmental Code of Practice for Elimination of Fluorocarbon Emissions from Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems.

For federal regulations, please see National regulations and initiatives.
