Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is seeking input and comments on topics and questions related to the Environmental Violations Administrative Monetary Penalties Regulations (the Regulations).

Administrative monetary penalties:

• are a type of monetary fine issued to address environmental non-compliance,
• are designed to deter non-compliance with selected legislative requirements, and
• are one of several enforcement actions used by ECCC to protect human health and the environment, and to conserve wildlife.

The goal of this consultation is to evaluate the implementation of the Regulations and determine whether modifications, such as amendments, are required to improve the effectiveness of the Regulations.

• the methodology used to calculate fine amounts, as outlined by the Regulations

• Environmental law and policy scholars and think tanks
• Canadians

The personal information is collected under the authority of section 5 of the Department of the Environment Act and subsection 7(1) of the Financial Administration Act.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is undertaking a review of the Environmental Violations Administrative Monetary Penalties Regulations (the Regulations), following ECCC's regulatory stock review plan. As part of the review process, departments and agencies must conduct consultations with external stakeholders. All comments received during this consultation will be considered when making the recommendation with respect to the regulations.

The information is collected, used and disclosed for the purpose of collecting feedback from interested stakeholders and Indigenous peoples on the implementation of the Regulations. All comments received will be considered when determining whether modifications, such as amendments to the Regulations, are required to further improve and modernize the Regulations. The final recommendations will be published on the ECCC stock review page. Input from the consultations will also be summarized into a publicly available what-we-heard report after the review is complete. Please refrain from using personal identifying information in your responses. Your participation and decision to answer any question in this consultation process is voluntary.
