Share your thoughts: Draft Update to Canada’s National Implementation Plan under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants

The Government of Canada published a Draft Update to Canada’s National Implementation Plan (NIP) under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). It is open for a 45-day public comment period ending on August 31, 2023.
Background
In May 2022, Canada approved the listings of 5 POPs listed to the Stockholm Convention:
- Dicofol
- Hexachlorobutadiene
- Polychlorinated naphthalenes
- Short-chain chlorinated paraffins (known as short-chain chlorinated alkanes in Canada)
- Technical endosulfan and its related isomers
The Draft Update to Canada’s National Implementation Plan, which outlines Canada’s plans, policies and programs in place to meet our commitments with these listings, has been prepared to address our obligations under Article 7 of the Stockholm Convention. The final version of the Update to Canada’s National Implementation Plan will take into consideration comments received on the draft and will be transmitted to the Stockholm Convention Secretariat by August 2024.
