Asbestos - Occupational exposure in federally regulated workplaces

Is this your workplace or industry

• Construction/construction products/commercial renovations /demolition/roofing and flooring materials/insulation
• Shipyards/marine construction, refit, demolition and repair of vessels
• Power plants/heat-resistant products such as fireproofing spray and pipe insulation
• Industrial and chemical
• Railroads
• Blast furnaces/steelworks
• Boiler repairs and maintenance
• Electrical light and power
• Fireproof protective clothing/brake lining/similar materials
• HVAC systems
• Office or other works in a building suspected or known to contain crumbing insulation

Concerns

• In your occupation do you work directly with materials or products containing asbestos?
• Do you worry that you are not adequately protected when working with or near asbestos-containing materials?
• Have you experienced any health symptoms like breathing difficulties or a persistent cough?
• Can you see damaged friable materials that may contain asbestos in your workplace?
• Do you worry that your work with or near asbestos can make you ill?

Action to take

If you answered “Yes” to one or more of these questions, raise the issue with your supervisor and refer to the Internal complaint resolution process website.
