Video: Introduction to the LMIA Online Portal

This video provides you with general information on the LMIA Online Portal and its benefits.

Transcript: Introduction to the LMIA Online Portal

Are you a Canadian employer wanting to hire temporary foreign workers?

Most employers need a Labour Market Impact Assessment, or LMIA, before they can hire a temporary foreign worker in Canada.

An LMIA confirms that there is a need for a temporary foreign worker and that no Canadians or permanent residents of Canada are available to do the job.

You can submit an application through the LMIA Online Portal, a reliable and secure website used by Canadian employers who want to hire temporary foreign workers through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

There are many benefits to submitting the LMIA application online. The user-friendly LMIA Online Portal allows you to:

  • complete or go back to an LMIA application before submitting it to Service Canada
  • upload supporting documents
  • securely pay LMIA fees, if required
  • view correspondence and decision letters issued by Service Canada
  • get real-time updates on the status of your application, and
  • review previously submitted applications

Before you can access the LMIA Online Portal you must have an active user account with Job Bank, and you must register the business you are hiring for. Make sure that contact information linked to both your user account and business profile are correct.

If you do not have a Job Bank account, you can create one by visiting this address. This should only take about 10 minutes.

Once you've logged into your account, you will be guided through an electronic questionnaire that helps you through the application process.

If the job you are hiring for is based in Quebec, you must also print a French copy of the LMIA application and submit it to Quebec's Ministère de l'Immigration, Francisation et Intégration (MIFI).
