Building a modern 21st century workforce: Closed engagement

The Government of Canada sought to gather diverse perspectives from across Canada on:
- current labour market challenges
- views on skills development and lifelong learning
- ideas for building a productive and inclusive workforce
Input received was to inform how modern approaches to skills development, education supports and lifelong learning could equip the workforce of tomorrow.

The Government of Canada engaged with:
- Canadians of working age
- Employers
- Unions
- Industry, business associations
- Provincial and Territorial Governments
- Indigenous Governments and organizations
- Organizations serving under-represented groups
- Employment services organizations
- Educational training institutions

We sought your views on the following general questions related to the themes and priorities in a discussion paper (and outlined below):
- What are the strengths of the Canadian approach to workforce development and opportunities?
- What does your organization consider to be the most critical areas of focus for the future?
- Are there barriers that the federal government could or should remove?
- Are there existing workforce training models or partnerships that work well in Canada or in other jurisdictions?
- How can we improve pathways for job seekers to fill existing job vacancies?
To provide questionnaire participants with background information for this engagement, we shared a discussion paper (summary of the paper).
The input gathered through this process is being used to inform future policies and programs to build Canada’s workforce of tomorrow.
