About the Supports for Student Learning Program

In today's world, it is important young people in Canada have the tools they need to succeed. This includes supporting students to meet their learning goals. Education is key to stronger lifelong economic, social and health outcomes.

Canada is a world leader when it comes to our educational achievements. Yet gaps remain for many who face challenges completing their studies.

This is where the Supports for Student Learning Program (SSLP) comes in. Increasing equity for all students is the priority. To do this, the SSLP funds organizations to provide many inclusive supports for students, such as:

• tutoring sessions
• mentoring programs
• mental and social wellbeing services
• bursaries and scholarships
• opportunities to study or work outside Canada

The program focuses on two key areas:

Students and afterschool support

Helping students who face barriers graduate high school, and transition to and persist in post-secondary education, so that they can get the skills and experience needed to succeed in life and the labour market. Supports are offered outside of the formal education system, to complement efforts by provinces and territories.

Study and work abroad opportunities

Helping Canadian college and undergraduate university students take part in international learning opportunities both at home (virtually) and abroad.

SSLP does not provide supports or services directly to individuals or families. The program provides funding to youth-serving organizations so they can provide services to students. By working with expert organizations to deliver these supports, SSLP increases the capacity of the youth sector. Interested in receiving supports funded by the SSLP?
