About the Equitable Access to Reading Program

The Equitable Access to Reading Program (EARP) is a Government of Canada funding program. It gives money to groups that help create print materials in alternate formats for people with print disabilities.
A print disability is one that makes it difficult to read print materials.
Print materials are items that you can read like books, newspapers, articles, restaurant menus and more.
Alternate formats refer to print materials that are changed for use by people with print disabilities. Examples include Braille, large print, certain digital and e-books and more.
Program objectives
- Create alternate format reading materials in English, French, and Indigenous languages for people with print disabilities
- Turn print reading materials that are about or by people from diverse backgrounds into alternate formats
- Help groups work together to make it easier to create and use alternate formats
- Train people with print disabilities on how to find and use alternate format reading materials
- Make sure community groups know how to find alternate format reading materials
