Employment and Social Development Canada is conducting a research study on reverse mortgages in Canada. The research study aims to better understand motivations for getting reverse mortgages and their impacts on retirement security.
Your participation will help inform programs and policies aimed at promoting and strengthening income security of Canadians.
Who can participate
We are looking for individuals who:
- currently have or used to have a reverse mortgage, or
- are applying for a reverse mortgage
You could also be a family member impacted by your relative’s decision to get a reverse mortgage.
To participate in this research study you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

What will you need to do
If you qualify, we may ask you to:
- complete an online questionnaire (20 to 30 minutes)
- complete a document asking you to enter important events in your life (20 to 30 minutes)
- take part in 2 interviews (45 to 60 minutes each)
- send us photos and/or short videos that illustrate your experience
You could get up to $250 depending on how many activities you participate in.
If you are a family member, we will ask you to participate in one interview, for which you could get $100.
