Employment and Social Development Canada is conducting a research study on home equity and retirement in Canada. The research study aims to explore the impacts of housing-backed debt (like mortgages and home equity lines of credit) on retirement planning among people in Canada aged 45 and older.
Your participation will help inform programs and policies aimed at promoting and strengthening income security of Canadians.
Who can participate
We are looking for homeowners who:
- live in one of the following cities:
- Moncton, New Brunswick
- Montreal, Quebec
- Whitehorse, Yukon
- Vancouver, British Columbia
- are aged:
- between 45 to 54 years old with 2 or more debts on their primary residence (for example, a mortgage and a home equity line of credit), or
- 55 and older with 1 or more debts on their primary residence (for example, mortgage or a home equity line of credit)
To participate in this research study you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

What will you need to do
If you qualify, we may ask you to:
- complete an online questionnaire (30 to 60 minutes)
- take part in up to 2 interviews (90 minutes total)
You could get up to $150 depending on how many activities you participate in.
