10040 Annex B - National Marksmanship Championship

Cadets and Junior Canadian Ranger Group Order (CJCR Gp O)

National Marksmanship Championship

Activity Description

1. The JCR National Marksmanship Championship is intended to support the three circles of learning, particularly Canadian Ranger skills. It complements the community-level air rifle program in promoting an understanding of good marksmanship and safe firearms handling.

2. The championship creates an opportunity for JCRs to travel outside their home communities and meet others JCRs from across Canada. The event typically includes cultural and social activities.

3. CRPGs/Divs will be requested, on a rotational basis, to host the Championship.

Event Components

4. The championship includes the following components:

  1. opening and closing ceremonies;
  2. an air rifle marksmanship competition; and
  3. a local cultural activity.

Competition

5. The air rifle marksmanship competition includes the following:

  1. a minimum of three individual matches;
  2. a minimum of two team matches;
  3. a minimum of two shooting positions, chosen from: prone, sitting, kneeling and standing; and
  4. concurrent activities.

Competitors and Coaches

6. Each CRPG is permitted a specific number of teams to attend the championship, based on their number of JCR Patrols. The selection process by which those teams are selected is to be determined by each CRPG.

7. Each team will consist of five JCRs and a coach.

Scoring/Competition Rules

8. The hosting CRPG/Div will have final authority on all rules-related issues.

Miscellaneous Coordination

9. Only issued air rifles will used for the competition portion of the championship.

10. Additional specialized equipment and SME support (eg, electronic targets/scoring systems) may be coordinated through proximal Regional Cadet Support Units.

11. Coordination of NMC awards, to include available funding, is covered under CJCR Gp O 10060 (Finance).
