Update to the Order of St. George Medal – Cadets

- Since 2016, the Order of St. George Medal has recognized outstanding achievement in the Cadet Program for Staff Cadets.
- In accordance with Reference A, the main objective in awarding the order of St. George medal is to emphasize the support and/or service to Veterans, remembrance and support to Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and their families.
- To be eligible for consideration, a staff cadet must meet the following criteria:
- Meet all requirements of the Cadet Training Centre (CTC) summer training program;
- Is held in high regard by peers and superiors as a model cadet;
- Be a member in good standing of one of the three cadet programs (Sea, Army, Air);
- Demonstrates outstanding leadership and compassion for subordinates;
- Effectively applies diverse leadership techniques to motivate subordinates to meet achieve required outcomes;
- Has completed three (3) years as a cadet;
- Has participated in community service events that the CTC promotes during the summer training period;
- Has demonstrated leadership qualities;
- has demonstrated instructional abilities.
- Effective 2026, Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers Group (CJCR Gp) is updating how these medals are distributed within the CTC Program to support a more consistent and transparent approach across training centres. The distribution of the Order of St. George Medal within the CTC Program will be as follows:
- each CTC will receive a minimum of one medal;
- one additional medal will be allocated for every 50 staff cadets, rounded in favour of the staff cadet; and
- where more than one medal is allocated, consideration should be given to awarding at least one medal to a first-year staff cadet, where merit permits, to support long-term program engagement and visibility.
- In accordance with Reference D, selection of medal recipients will be conducted by a formal board conducted by the CTC/Training Site. The board will be chaired by the CTC H&R Coordinator or a member designated by the CTC Commanding Officer (CO). The board will review all eligible candidates and determine the recipients in accordance with the established eligibility and selection criteria.
- Questions concerning the changes to the Order of St George medal or CJCR Gp Honours and Recognition Program may be forwarded to your respective Regional Cadet Support Unit (RCSU) Honours & Recognition (H&R) Coordinator.
