Annex E - Laboratory and Radiological Tests After a Heat Stroke

This list is only meant as a guideline. Clinical judgment must be used in this followup. Tests may be skipped and others added depending on the clinical situation.

Laboratory testing:

  • Arterial blood gases
  • Lactic acid
  • Glucose
  • Electrolytes
  • Phosphate
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Hepatic function tests
  • Muscle function tests (CK, aldolase, myoglobin)
  • CBC
  • Kidney function tests (creatinine and BUN)
  • Urinalysis
  • In some cases, a CSF cell count may be indicated

Radiological testing:

  • Head CT if there was an altered mental status)
  • Chest X ray (as a follow-up if there was atelectasis, pneumonia, pulmonary infarction, or pulmonary edema.)
