Canadian Defence Industry Resilience Program

The Government of Canada is launching the Canadian Defence Industry Resilience (CDIR) program to support the defence of Canada and safety of Canadians. The program will provide funding to Canadian businesses to increase their production capacity for defence-related goods, equipment, services and materials. This includes enhancing existing and introducing new production capabilities, improving the supply chain resiliency for component parts and raw material such as critical minerals, and strengthening domestic production.

This program is novel as it allows the Government of Canada to specifically target investments in Canadian businesses and their Canadian supply chain partners. The program supports Government of Canada procurement priorities such as the Buy Canada Policy to ensure Canadian industry benefits from defence investments. 

The CDIR program is an initiative under the Defence Industrial Strategy (DIS), which aims to build a more resilient, innovative, and sovereign defence industrial base. Through the DIS, the Department of National Defence is working closely with Canadian industry to ensure that Canada can develop, produce, and sustain the capabilities required by the Canadian Armed Forces over the long term.

The funding available to the Canadian defence industry through the CDIR is also expected to help create skilled jobs for Canadian workers for the long term and generate economic benefits for Canadian communities.
