CAFCYBERCOM to deliver new Cyber Operator training program with Algonquin College

The Canadian Armed Forces Cyber Command (CAFCYBERCOM) will deliver a new foundational training program for CAF Cyber Operator candidates through its Cyber Training Unit (CTU), in partnership with Algonquin College.

Managed and delivered by CTU under CAFCYBERCOM, the program provides structured learning pathways guiding recruits from foundational skills to operational capability. Training ensures CAF personnel are prepared to defend military networks, support multi-domain operations, and contribute to national and global security.

“Strengthening our cyber capabilities is a strategic priority for CAFCYBERCOM,” said Lieutenant-Colonel James Carter, CTU’s Commanding Officer. “This program will equip recruits with the knowledge and skills needed to respond to evolving cyber threats and support CAF operations both domestically and internationally.”

The College also highlighted the importance of a professional learning environment. “Algonquin College is proud to partner with the Canadian Armed Forces to deliver advanced cyber training that supports the Department of National Defence’s vital mission,” said Sandra Brancatelli, Dean, Algonquin College School of Advanced Technology. “By aligning our expertise in IT, networking, and cybersecurity with the operational needs of the CAF, we are helping prepare highly skilled personnel to safeguard Canada’s digital infrastructure and national security.”

CAF Cyber Operators monitor and safeguard communication and data networks across the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Special Forces. Training includes Basic Military Qualification, a CAF-approved college program, and advanced instruction at CTU, incorporating classroom instruction, simulations, and applied exercises in network security, digital forensics, and threat intelligence.

This program demonstrates CAFCYBERCOM’s proactive approach to cyber workforce development and Canada’s commitment to interoperability with NATO, NORAD, and global partners. By partnering with Algonquin College, CAFCYBERCOM ensures personnel are operationally ready to meet evolving cyber challenges while advancing national and international security objectives.
