CDS/CAF CWO Message: 2025 National Veterans’ Week Speakers Program

For many years, the National Veterans’ Week Speakers Program (NVWSP) has been connecting serving Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members with communities across the country to promote recognition of the courage and contributions of our veterans, and to honour their service.

As Canadians, we have a duty to remember and honour those who have served before us in times of war, conflict and peace. The NVWSP gives us this chance.

All CAF members bring a unique perspective on remembrance. Some of us have lost someone with whom we served; our friends, our brothers and sisters in arms. We carry them deep in our hearts, and they are forefront in our minds during Veterans’ Week (Nov 5-11).

Remembrance is not an abstract concept for us. It is deeply personal. Whether it is in schools, workplaces, or community centers, sharing our personal stories of remembrance makes a significant impact and can foster a deeper understanding of, and appreciation for, the role and impact of our military, both past and present.

As we mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, we only have to look to the outpouring of gratitude from Dutch people toward the veterans who liberated their country to see the lasting impact CAF members can make.

Now, in this uncertain world, more than ever, we must acknowledge our proud legacy and highlight the important work we do here at home and around the world.

Many of you in uniform have participated in the NVWSP in the past and, thanks to your contributions, we’ve connected with millions of Canadians, either virtually or in person. Giving a presentation during Veterans' Week is a rewarding and meaningful way to get involved in our local communities during this important time of year, especially as we look to grow the CAF. Some of the Canadians you reach through this activity may be inspired to serve, the way you were once inspired.

As planning begins for fall activities, we are asking senior leaders to encourage their members to participate in the NVWSP. Success relies on the involvement of CAF members of all ranks to meet the high demand for speakers.

For members who have shared their story through the program in previous years, we thank you for your participation and encourage you to get involved again this year.
