HOPE: Peer support program for bereaved members and military families

The HOPE (Helping Our Peers by Providing Empathy) program has created a powerful series of six testimonial videos, each sharing a deeply personal journey through grief.

The videos feature HOPE peer helpers who share their personal experiences of loss and healing. Their stories serve as a beacon of hope for others facing similar struggles, showing that, while grief can feel overwhelming, there is always a way forward. By Finding HOPE through grief, the videos aim to raise awareness about the complexities of loss and provide a lifeline to those in need, reminding viewers they are not alone.

About the HOPE program:

The HOPE program is designed to support active or retired CAF members and military families dealing with the loss of a loved one.

What makes HOPE unique is its peer support model: volunteers who have walked the same grief path offer empathy, understanding, and guidance to bereaved individuals. These peer helpers are not only trained to offer emotional support, but are also deeply connected to the military lifestyle, bringing an added layer of understanding that civilian bereavement services often cannot provide.

Supported by the Canadian Armed Forces, HOPE stands as a testament to the power of shared experience and peer support, offering a compassionate community for bereaved members and families to lean on as they navigate the difficult process of grief.
