Remembrance Day, bringing together political leaders, veterans, and the local community to honor the legacy of Sikh soldiers in Canada. The event specifically commemorates Private Buckam Singh, one of the first nine Sikh soldiers allowed to serve in the Canadian military during World War I

Private Singh’s grave, located at Mount Hope, is the only known resting place of a Sikh soldier in Canada. He was wounded at the Battle of Flanders in 1916 and returned to Canada in 1918, where he later passed away at the age of 25 in Kitchener’s Freeport Hospital the following year.

Now a major annual event, the Sikh Remembrance Day ceremony has become one of North America's largest gatherings of Sikh veterans and military personnel. It serves as an opportunity for Canadians to reflect on the inclusive spirit of the country and honour the sacrifices made by individuals from diverse backgrounds who helped shape Canada’s strength and security.
