Help contribute to independent research on hateful conduct and right-wing extremism

November 26, 2024 – Defence Stories

Estimated read time - 1:30

The Ontario Tech University’s Network for Research on Hateful Conduct and Right-Wing Extremism in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) (you are now leaving the Government of Canada website) is seeking participants for a study they are conducting through anonymous surveys and interviews.

The collected information will provide researchers with the means to understand and provide recommendations on how to detect and combat hateful conduct and radicalization among CAF members. Study results could also help develop recommendations on targeted interventions, systemic reform, and policy.

You are eligible to participate if you are:

  • a current or former serving member of the CAF, and
  • over 18 years old.

This research is being led by Dr. Barbara Perry from Ontario Tech University and Dr. David Hofmann from the University of New Brunswick, who collaborate with several leading Canadian scholars across the country who seek to understand the breadth, depth, and extent of hateful conduct and right-wing extremism in the CAF.

To participate:

  • If you are interested in participating in the survey, please follow this link (you are now leaving the Government of Canada website).
  • If you are interested in participating in an interview, please contact Dr. Perry and Dr. Hofmann via email: CAFstudy@ontariotechu.ca

Interested study participants are encouraged to complete the survey before December 6, 2024.

This research has been approved by the Department of National Defence and CAF Social Science Research Review Board under approval number 2041/22F in accordance with Defence Administrative Orders and Directives (DAOD) 5062-0 and DAOD 5062-1, and by the Ontario Tech University ethics board.
