New Informal Peer Support Groups for People Affected by Sexual Misconduct and/or Military Sexual Trauma

In response to the need for support services, the Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre (SMSRC), in partnership with Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), will offer new informal peer support groups for individuals affected by sexual misconduct and/or military sexual trauma (MST).
The Informal Peer Support Group service is available to those 18 years and older who are either current or former:
- CAF members/Veterans
- DND public service employees
- Cadets
- Junior Canadian Rangers
It offers a unique opportunity for participants to connect and heal among peers in a confidential virtual environment. This service available via MS Teams, consists of eight 90-minute group sessions, allowing for flexible participation. This is a drop-in style group meaning that once a person is registered, they can attend any or all the eight group sessions. English or French groups are available.
If you or someone you know is interested, the sessions will be offered:
- On Tuesdays in French from April 30 to June 18
- On Thursdays in English from May 2 to June 20
The groups are led by trained peer supporters with lived experience who help foster connection, understanding, and support through group discussion.
Safety and confidentiality are a top priority. We encourage active participation and make sure confidentiality is maintained throughout the sessions. Participants will have continuous access to extra support through the SMSRC’s 24/7 line counsellors, if needed.
Participants will also be encouraged to provide feedback to help refine and improve the service. After each session, anonymous and voluntary online surveys and/or one-to-one discussion with a staff member will be conducted to gather insights to ensure that the program is meeting the evolving and diverse needs of the community.
