March 12, 2024 - Defence Stories

As a manager, you play a critical role in supporting your staff's well-being.  As we head into a new fiscal year, managers and employees should consider what learning opportunities are available to proactively support their mental health.

For this next fiscal year, managers and employees are encouraged to take the following free mental health courses, offered through the Defence Learning Network:

For Employees: Mental Health in the Workplace for Employees (302823)

The goal of this 3 hour, virtual course is to help you recognize factors that contribute to a mentally healthy workplace, while developing a general understanding of mental health and mental illness and the impact of both on the workplace. Get tips, tools and resources to help those who may be experiencing mental health issues, while also encouraging a more tolerant, supportive and inclusive workplace. The course concludes with a module on how to manage and maintain your own mental health. This virtual offering discusses:

  • Mental Health and the Workplace
  • Stigma and Barriers to Care
  • Warning Signs
  • Self-Care

For Managers: Mental Health in the Workplace for Managers (301604)

The goal of this 2-hour virtual course is to help increase your level of confidence in managing mental health issues, while providing tips, tools and resources to help you support employees who may be experiencing mental health issues. This course content includes:

  • Managing Mental Health in the Workplace
  • Duty to Accommodate
  • Tool Kit: What Can You Do

Find additional mental health services and resources for managers and learning, tool and resources (accessible only on the National Defence network) available on the Organizational Well-Being SharePoint site.
