New well-being services for DND Employees: A message from your Employee Assistance Program Champion and EAP Advisory Committee Co-Chair

September 15, 2023 - Defence Stories

Team,

Supporting your mental health and well-being continues to be a top priority at National Defence, and one way we do that is through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). EAP is a professional, confidential, and proactive service to support you and your family members with a wide range of personal, family, and work-related concerns.

As EAP Champion for National Defence and National EAP Advisory Committee (NEAPAC) Co-Chairs, we are thrilled to announce that as of September 1 2023, all DND public service employees have access to new, enhanced EAP services and resources through our new service provider, Homewood Health. These services are available to you and your immediate family members 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and are designed to enable a proactive approach to supporting your well-being. New services include:

  • Counselling over chat for added flexibility to fit your busy schedule. Short-term counselling continues to be available in person, over the telephone, or by video as well;
  • Individual coaching on a wide range of topics such as family care, legal consultations, financial guidance, nutritional coaching, and shift worker support empowers you with the information and support you need to help you maintain work-life balance; and
  • A self-serve digital mental health platform provides you access to e-courses, internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT) and a comprehensive health library.

Note: Military members will continue to receive support through the Canadian Forces Members Assistance Program which will not be affected by this change.

To learn more about these new services and how to access them, we invite you to read the Maple Leaf announcement, attend an upcoming EAP Information Session (accessible only on the National Defence network), or contact the Employee Assistance Program.
