Statement on the withdrawal of the Heyder-Beattie appeal

On January 30th, 2023 the Government of Canada withdrew its appeal of a recent Federal Court ruling over a late claims management process for the CAF-DND Sexual Misconduct Class Action Final Settlement Agreement (FSA). As per the Court ruling, Class Members may continue to submit their request to file a late claim to the Administrator until the February 5, 2023 deadline. Class members who were considering submitting a request to file a late claim should seek guidance from Class Counsel on next steps.
The Defence Team continues to work diligently with all parties in all aspects of the implementation of the Final Settlement Agreement. CAF-DND remains steadfast in its commitment to address sexual misconduct across the Defence Team and to implement wide-ranging initiatives to foster cultural change within the institution. We will continue to listen to those affected to ensure we are taking the necessary steps to achieve lasting, positive change.
