Great news! DND has created a new Overtime Toolkit (accessible only on the National Defence network) that provides comprehensive instructions and information about claiming and submitting overtime.

When it comes to claiming overtime, your hours must be authorized by your section 34 manager prior to working them. The process to claiming overtime in leave and claiming overtime in cash varies.

Claiming overtime in leave means after you work overtime, you can request your compensation in leave, which is also known as compensatory time off (CTO). Whether you report to a civilian or a military section 34 manager, the process remains the same.

Claiming overtime in cash differs on whether you report to a civilian or a military section 34 manager. Check out the Claiming Overtime (accessible only on the National Defence network) section in the toolkit to ensure you follow the correct process.

You can also access the following printable PDFs for easy access:

Your input matters to us! If you have any feedback on the new Overtime Toolkit, please let the HR-Civ Compensation team know.

If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact an agent at HR Connect RH (accessible only on the National Defence network) (for DND employees only).
