New Ombudsman report—Service versus Self

After reviewing the most common issues that military families brought to their attention, the National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Ombudsman identified compassionate postings—including contingency cost moves for personal reasons and compassionate status—as a topic to investigate further.

After more than a year of in-depth investigative work into this issue, the Ombudsman has released their systemic investigation, titled Service versus Self.

This investigation will provide decision makers with three evidence-based recommendations. These recommendations, if accepted and implemented, will contribute to substantial and long-lasting improvements to the well-being of Regular Force CAF members and their families.

Understand the differences between Compassionate status (with or without a Compassionate posting) and a Contingency cost move for personal reasons, and the steps to follow to request one of these options.
