2022 RMC Zoom Information Session MA/PhD in War Studies

The War Studies Programme of the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) will offer a Zoom information session on War Studies graduate degrees on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 1900 hrs Eastern Standard Time (EST).
This information session is to answer questions from military and government personnel who are interested in applying to RMC’s Master of Arts (MA) and PhD programs, for the May admissions board (which will admit new students for classes starting in September). The session will be focussed upon members of the Canadian Armed Forces, their spouses and partners, Government of Canada employees, as well as United States military personnel who are eligible to apply for a spring application deadline of May 1st, 2022.
RMC offers a MA in War Studies and a Doctor of Philosophy in War Studies. These degrees can be completed full-time or part-time. All War Studies courses can be taken by distance.
The MA in War Studies usually requires a minimum two years for completion and can take no longer than five years. This degree programme has three options:
- Course Pattern – ten-graduate course credits;
- Thesis Pattern – six-graduate course credits plus a thesis (four credits); and
- Directed Research Project (DRP) Pattern – eight-graduate course credits plus a DRP (two credits).
As a multi-disciplinary degree, the MA in War Studies offers courses across a full spectrum of Social Sciences and Humanities subjects.
The Doctor of Philosophy in War Studies normally requires at least five years to complete, although students must complete the program within seven years. Students must register as full-time students for a period of two years to undertake course work and complete comprehensive examinations, followed by three years to research, write, and defend the dissertation. The three primary fields of study are:
- International Relations;
- Defence Policy; and
- Military History.
